Tropical Taste in Old San Juan is a gem! After trekking the cobblestone streets during our vacation in December, we found this restaurant. We started with the appetizer sampler, featuring delicious alcapurrias, bacalaitos, and sorullitos – each bite was packed with authentic flavor. The veggie mofongo was a standout, and both the fish and chicken plates were perfectly cooked and seasoned. To top it off, the coquito was the best we’ve ever had. Exceptional food, great service, and a wonderful atmosphere. I highly recommend!

🌴 Don’t judge a book by its cover! 🛍️ Despite needing to navigate through a charming souvenir shop to find it, Tropical Taste is a hidden gem. 😊 The welcoming smiles and friendly atmosphere immediately put you at ease. 🍽️ Opted for the crab dish and it was absolutely divine – pure perfection! 🦀 Overall, a delightful experience, made even better with music. 🎶

I must have gone on a bad and super busy day because our food was greasy, cold, and fried in old grease. The food was hard to bite off and chew as well. The mojito was phenomenal! I had 2. You will have to walk through a store to get to the restaurant, which is in the back. It’s small, so you will have to wait for a table.

The food made me sick, to say the least.

Ordered the churrasco mofongo, large sampler and fried whole red snapper. Atmosphere is very simplistic and it’s through another store, so don’t miss the entrance. I loved the salted codfish fritters on the sampler plate and the churrasco skirt steak was cooked perfectly! The red snapper was a bit under seasoned but presentation was lovely, I’d recommend coming here.
Update: came back and tried the flan de queso and it was the best tasting one on my trip. Not overly sweet. Only thing was that it was maybe a bit too firm. Very expensive though! A little slice was about $10, so be aware.

Wanted some authentic Puerto Rican cuisine before leaving the island, found a hidden spot in the backend of a retail store. Saw the menu board on the sidewalk. Not much on the eyes, felt like a breakroom in a warehouse.
It was surprisingly busy, the waiter was running all over the place. The food was very good, corn bites were like little muffins deep fried, not the corn nuggets I’ve had back home, very good.
She had shrimp in a spicy sauce with yellow rice and beans, my main was spicy chicken mufungo, apparently its a blend of mashed plantains.
Recomend it all.
Food came out a little warmer than cool but was good enough I didn’t give a hoot.
As we headed out, we were diverted due to some Gaza March, nuts were everywhere.
